DISCUSSION 1

Analyzing the character of Miss Trunchbull from the NOVEL called Matilda. and compare it on a qualities of being a teacher: being  a caring, accountable, critically reflective, responsible and an educational practitioner who is able to support and nurture learning and development in diverse educational contexts.
Miss Trunchbull did not care about the well being of the children as you can see on the above picture she is holding a learner with his leg,  this is not a right way to discipline a child, not according to the constitution and code of conduct of teachers. In the novel, chapter "The Trunchbull" page 66 (e book)  the writer also state the qualities of a teacher; "They understand children and they have the children's best interests at heart. They are sympathetic. They are fair and they are deeply interested in education. Miss Trunchbull possessed none of these qualities and how she ever got her present job was a mystery."

Miss Trunchbull did not uphold her responsibility which are the learners for an example she threw a learner outside a window. when learners are at school, the teachers are responsible for them. She is not critically reflective like  Miss Honey. Miss Honey was able to recognize Matilda who was a genius and had supernatural powers, she acted pro-active by going to Miss Trunchbull as a headmistress to see if they can do something about this instead Miss Trunchbull did not care, she care about how she going to punish the child if she gets naughty.
Not being responsible Miss Trunchbull is not accountable, she is the only one who makes decisions and no one has a say, that means she is not answerable,  responsible and reporting. this are qualities of a person who is accountable which Miss Trunchbull do not have.

THE UNMENTIONED MIGHT OF A WOMAN

THE UNMENTIONED MIGHT OF A WOMAN.

This article reminds me of how I give adulation to my mother, praising her for all she has done for me, the strength she has, amazes me, most of the time I feel like I do not give her all the credit she deserves, she is a single parent, the way she so classy the is no need for man adulation.

The point of view of this article was that of a woman. A woman praising other woman, words like "your", "you" and "woman" are used. The strength of woman is unfold by the writer, you can tell by the words she used that, this woman she praises had/ have an impact on her live, the woman is her supporting system "my unyielding backbone".

The values and attitudes that are highlighted in this article are as follows:

  • values:  The measure of the worth or importance of a woman without depending to man.                                                               A woman this a supporting system.                                                    A woman is a formidable tank. A woman is silent operator.  A guidance, a woman is confidence.
  • Attitudes : Is the way a woman expresses or applies their values.
A woman is strong without a man's presences,

You are a woman and have powers that go beyond the ignorance of a man because “what are men to rocks and mountains?”(Pride and Prejudice)"" "Your ability to truly express your emotions without fear is only a testament of how strong you are."
A woman puts others first before herself, "You stand behind me not because you are afraid to stand on your own, but because you understand that strength can only be found from stability"

I totally disagree with the writer's  portrayal of  man in the article, not all man hide their emotions, some man can express their feels, we living in a 21 century where not only man can hide their emotions but women can also hide their emotions. Men can cry in weddings, funerals, they talk about their problems to others, this was seen as being weak, but not in this timeline, we all saw Oscar Pistorius crying in court.

Yes,the writer's style of writing is effective because her argument is organised, important issues were raised, the is a logical flow of ideas and cohesive, no slang used.

Weblogs as an Emerging Genre in Higher Education, analysing Jo Ann Oravee's article: spring 2003. vol. 14(2)21-44

Weblogs as an Emerging Genre in Higher Education.analysing  Jo Ann Oravee's article: spring 2003. vol. 14(2)21-44.

One might ask what is a weblog, answer to that question is that a weblog is website or an internet application, where one record  ideas of his/her personal experience or academic experiences  (a sort of diary), or a recording of a particular disciplinary structure(health, careers, studies) according to Jo Anna Oravee, a weblog is a internet application genre , providing a platform for the development of critical.

Jo  Anna Oravee also mention the value and importance of weblogs in higher education, he state that weblog production and consumption can help student place the various emerging hypertext variations with older media in the broader context of "media ecology"
As we all know, plagiarism is one of the biggest issues face in the higher education, weblogs limits or help reframe plagiarism, he finally mentions that students who access and use weblogs may therefore gain distorted senses of the timeframe of academic production and of the nature of intellectual discourse.

Before i became a student in the University of Mpumalanga, I did not know much about weblogs, I use to watch my favorite day time show called Oprah, they would mention the word weblog, but it ended there. During my first year, all the first year created their first weblogs, because it was part of the curriculum, most of us did not know, what was a weblog, how to blog or use it or what to write on it, but it was explained to us. In terms of academic, weblogs are not useful to me because I do not know weblogs that are aliened   to my studies, even when I tried to search for them, they do not appear. But in terms of personal life, when it comes to health, fashion etc. it is so helpful because most of the weblogs that are aliened to the above are done by celebrates, its easy to reach them because celebrates market their weblogs using shows(television), radios and magazines.

Most of the blogger use their own knowledge, the isn't  much research been done, limited hyperlinks, so the blogs become less effective for students.weblogs can be effective if more research is done, more hyperlinks are included and market their blog to be reachable for students.

Unit 1.2 11 August 2016

Service learning is a community service that take place to meet the community, the is a collaboration of a school or university, it is course based, credit bearing educational experience. It's an opportunity for student to develop and learn new skills, and they get to understand the ability to care, this experience provides a chance to practice "reflection". Reflection entails three elements namely: conative, cognition, affective. Schon (1983) help us to gain an understanding and acknowledge the types of reflection: reflection in action, reflection on action, reflection for action.
